The DoE are required to provide training to all staff that handle Hazardous Substances at their worksite.

Laboratory Staff Two Day Course

Course content covers Worksafe WA requirements on the safe storage and handling of hazardous substances. Including legislation from the OSH Act 1984 , Department of Mines and Petroleum Resources Safety,  Health Department and DoE policy.

This is a 2 day course for laboratory technicians, however science teachers in District high schools are encouraged to attend. All laboratory staff are required to attend this 2 day course and do a 1 day refresher course every 5 years or if there are any significant changes to legislation.  If you have not attended this course please contact  julie.carey@education.wa.edu.au for enrolment details and registration. Please note that places are limited and preference will be given to staff who have not attended the course previously.

All course materials are supplied along with morning tea, lunch will no be supplied.  The second day of the course you will be required to participate in a practical component,  please wear appropriate dress for a laboratory, closed in shoes, a laboratory coat and safety glasses if you have them.  


Hazardous-Substances for all staff handling hazardous substances  1 Day course

In order to comply with The Occupational Safety and Health Regulation 1996 5.21 and
Appendix A: of the Department of Education Occupational Safety Health and Safety Policy July 2012 version 2.2.

The DoE are required to provide training to staff in schools responsible for the maintenance and handling of hazardous substances to meet with legislative requirements by the Departments of Health,WorksafeWA(Department of Commerce) and Resources Safety (Department of Mines & Petroleum).
